Taking Control of Your Mornings

What do you do to feed yourself mentally? Especially when you first wake up and you’re getting your day started. There’s usually so much on your mind with the tasks that need to be done, that you don’t take a moment for yourself to prepare.

Taking that time out rather it be to meditate, practice yoga in your bed or on the mat(or wherever you see fit), praying etc is so crucial to make sure you are mentally ready for what the day has to come. If you want to give meditation a try when you first wake up, you can still be lying down you don’t have to be sitting up with your legs crossed like the “traditional” way that you see. Just lie in bed and give yourself a few moments of peace and breathe slowly. You can also play some music that you think would go well with your meditation I’ve personally created a playlist of songs that I really enjoy to hear during meditation, but it’s all up to you. I know sometimes I get bad anxiety knowing how busy my day will be, but if I take that time to mediate and be present in the moment, my anxiety usually fades away. Meditation is good for the mind, the heart and the bodies so don’t be afraid to give it a try.

Doing Yoga in the morning has many benefits. It can help you to build  healthy, consistent routine to your yoga practice. Morning Yoga will also warm up your digestive system and help nutrients move more easily through your body causing carbs and fats to metabolize faster. If you need some pointer on poses to do,  here’s a few bed yoga poses that you can try:

So what about those times when you wake up on the “wrong side of the bed” and now you’re just so convinced that the day is going to be ruined. I’ve learned that speaking positivity into the university verbally or physically writing it down makes a difference. Life is truly what you make it, so if you are speaking negativity into the world that‘s unfortunately what you’re bound to get. Even if the day seems like it’s going to be terrible, maybe try for positive affirmations like: “I will have a wonderful day,” “I am going to be positive In spite of the negativity that life is trying to give me.” Just speaking those things in to existence goes a long way, by the end of the day you may realize that those affirmations worked and your day ended much better than it started.

I hope that I brought some positive additions to your morning routine. I know that sometimes it’s hard to get out of bed, but as you see you don’t have to get out of bed to do any of these things, you just have to get up!  –Namaste
